Our Place Support Partners with ETC Training

We are delighted to announce a new partnership between Our Place Support and Expert Training & Consultancy (ETC), bringing a series of specialist mental health training courses to Our Place.
Together, the partnership brings a valuable combination of lived and frontline experience in mental health and community services. Our combined experience includes working with people of all ages and across a wide range of communities and backgrounds.
The partnership means we are able to offer even more practical and accessible training designed to increase skills, knowledge and awareness across a range of mental health matters.
Our first two courses are:
Coping with Crisis
Monday 2 November 2026, 9.30am–12.30pm
Online – Introductory offer: £85 per person
This practical course will explore:
- What a mental health crisis is and how it may differ from a physical health crisis
- Panic attack first aid
- How to respond when someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts or ideation
- Self-harm and managing first aid following self-harm
- Supporting someone experiencing a psychotic episode, including hearing voices or paranoia
- When additional support is needed and the local support available
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise common signs that someone may be experiencing a mental health crisis
- Respond more confidently and appropriately to a panic attack
- Understand how to have a supportive conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts
- Respond safely and sensitively to self-harm
- Provide appropriate initial support to someone experiencing psychosis, hearing voices or paranoia
- Identify when further or urgent help is required and signpost to relevant services
The course will be delivered by Emma and is suitable for professionals, volunteers and anyone who may support people experiencing a mental health crisis.
Dementia Awareness
Thursday 26 November 2026, 10am–12.30pm
In person – £85 per person
This lived-experience-informed course has been written and will be delivered by Emma. It will help participants increase their understanding of dementia and develop greater awareness and confidence when supporting people living with dementia and those around them.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain what dementia is and recognise some of its common signs and symptoms
- Understand how dementia can affect a person’s memory, communication, behaviour and everyday life
- Recognise that each person’s experience of dementia is different
- Communicate with greater confidence, patience and understanding
- Use a more compassionate and person-centred approach when providing support
- Understand the importance of lived experience in improving dementia awareness and practice
As a Community Interest Company, income generated through our training is reinvested into Our Place Support’s community mentoring and advice services, meaning every booking also creates added social value for local people and communities.
